A huge perk in my business is getting to make friends, real friends who I meet only because I am commissioned to take pictures. It's pretty amazing. I get to be one of the first people to hold someone's precious new baby, or get sweet toddler hugs, play a part in celebrating birthdays, communions, graduations, weddings, and of course shooting a boudoir session when the woman might feel the most vulnerable she has ever felt in her life (at the start of the session anyway)....and all of this being possibly the first time we have met each other face to face! I mean after playing a part in these rare times in people's lives and new experiences I can't imagine not keeping in contact with them afterwards! Really connecting with new people is just awesome!
The flip side to this is when I get to work with old friends. And I mean really old friends. Friend that shape your childhood. Friends that have a bond so strong that no matter how many years pass nothing can break the connection. That's exactly how I feel about this beautiful gal! We became joined at the hip at about 11 years old. As we got older and in the time before facebook we went in 2 different directions but that will never matter. Thanks to facebook and her finally moving back to Massachusetts this session got to happen! My second time actually photographing her but the first one was a much less intimate portrait session!
She may be my most "plain Jane" friend and self described "jeans and tee shirt girl" so I knew the transformation when getting her all glammed up was going to be so much fun!
Here is what she had to say about the experience: "I've never viewed myself as beautiful, cute at best. I always struggled with my weight and then went through major weight loss and still struggled with seeing the new me, I will always see myself 100% heavier than I am. This session allowed me to step back and see the real me I am today. After viewing the pictures with my husband that night he kept saying how he is married to an underwear model. It was really fun to have him see me differently as well."
